Today for Daily 5 we created Word Clouds using the ABCYA website, and we saved them directly onto our google drive. Here are a few.
 

Disco

Pukekos

We have talking about Pukekos in Room 12.  We drew Pukekos for our Calendar Art, we made 3D Pukekos with Mrs M for Art and we coloured in Pukeko pictures to use the Colarmix app on the iPad to get them to turn into 3D creatures.

We wrote some Information Reports about Pukekos as well.  Here are a few:

Ashley's Information Report:
This story is about Pukekos. Pukekos have got a blue body and a black feather. Pukekos also have red legs and a red beak and red eyes. Pukekos go looking for food such as worms and bugs. Pukekos live  around swampy areas. Pukekos are a member of the rail family of birds. Pukekos can grow about 51 centimetres long. Pukekos can be about the size of a hen. Pukekos can be aggressive. Pukekos are found all over New Zealand. Although Pukekos don’t have webbed feet they are extremely good swimmers. I think Pukekos are an interesting animal.

Julia's Information Report:
My information report is about pukeko’s. Pukeko’s have a red beak and have red legs.  They live in grass areas and they eat bugs and attack people. They also live in swamps. Their body is blue and black. They have some white in their tail. The rest of their tail is black. I like Pukeko’s because the babies are cute and the saddest part is when they eat baby ducks that I feel sad for them. I really do feel sorry for them.

Trinity's Information Report:
Pukekos are  a bird that can not fly They are a swomp bird.They also eat the head’s off of little baby ducklings. They have red beaks.  And have blue tummy’s and red leg’s and black wing’s. They have red eyes.They eat heads off little ducklings. And live in the swamp.Sometimes they are could swamp hen’s. I think the pukekos are very cool and they deserve respect.

  My Tiny Dragon - by Ben
  One day I found a little dragon. He looked sad so I took him home and gave him a bath and cleaned him. He had lots of mud on him. He is cute and cuddly. He eats candy but we don't have to feed him because his magic is that he can make candy when he wants. He said he lives in a small dark cave. We take really good care of him. He used to be a big dragon but his father made him drink a shrinking potion so that is why he is small. His friend is super man.  The cool thing is that he has a razor sharp blade.
  
  
  The Ender Dragon - by Jared
  One day I was at the house by myself and then there was a package at the front door. I opened it. I saw a little baby ender dragon. First I was afraid of it. I ran. Then I came back. I made it a bed and a  cage. I got some rotten flesh.  I feed him the rotten flesh, then I taught him to fly. Soon he was flying around the house. Then mum and dad got home.  I hid the the dragon and the cage in my room.  I came out of my room.  My mum and dad came to my room.  I said there is not any thing in here.  They went to the lounge to watch TV.  I ran outside in to my hut.  My dragon was safe, well thats what I thought.  Then my next door neighbour came over, they went to my hut and they just about stood my tiny dragon.  I said lets go inside.  We had lunch then they went back to their house.  The next day I told my parents I had a dragon. At first they thought I was playing a trick on them but I showed them the dragon. First the dragon got scared of my mum and dad and then I told him there was nothing to be scared of.  Then he came out of his hole. Mum went out to get some chicken.
  
  
  The Tiny Flame Dragon - by Summer N
  Once upon a time there was a tiny flame dragon that was lost. The baby dragon looked scared and really terrified. He looked really sad. So I kept him. I named him Flamy. He looked so adorable. I kept it a secret. Until he had magic I knew, he did. There was this weird sound in the house and Flamy was floating without his wings flapping!!!! I screamed really loud because it freaked me out! I had this tingling feeling on my body and I floated as well! I didn’t know it can happen, but I loved it! it was so cool, I felt like I had a smile inside! As he grew I let him live outside, I always wanted to ride him. He was cool when he had violet scales.
  
  
  Zane the Tiny Dragon - by Mason
  One day I went on a plane to Saturn and I went underwater and found a tiny dragon and a potion.    So I took him home. But I found the rest of the family. So I took them all home. The first tiny dragon I found was Zane the father and he was married to Nicky and has three sons called Ash, Aqua and Finn and has two daughters called Amy and Isabella. Zane loves adventures and music.  Nicky loves to run till dinner. Ash likes to play games and relax. Aqua likes to read with her sister Isabella,dance with her sister Amy and tell stories. Finn likes to annoy Her sister Amy and scare everyone. Amy loves to write, be creative and dance with Her brother Aqua. Isabella likes to read with her brother Aqua and go on her phone. There aren’t more like Zane. His home is Rainbow Land above our house in the clouds. I look after Zane by giving him water, feeding him gold marshmallows and playing catch with him. I keep it a secret because the person I tell might tell everyone. Zane is magical and he can summon storms,shoot fireballs and teleport. Zane is blue with red stars. Zane can turn big so I can ride on him. I love Zane.
  
  
  The Amazing Dragon Sisters - by Ella
  Once upon a time there was a dragon who lived in cloud land.  But one day she drank a potion on cloud land. She drank so much she fell right through the cloud and landed in my bag when I was going to school. After school I went home.  Me and Ashley got into our room.  I said, “Ashley did you feel something fall into your bag when we were going to school?”  Ashley said, “ yes”.  “Me too”.  We went to open our bag and a dragon popped out of our bags. We went closer, I picked up our dragons and Ashley said “can we keep them?”  I said “yes”. Ashley said “I am going to call mine Intendo.”  I  said “I'll call mine Skippy.”  Me and Ashley put Skippy and Intendo into our pockets and skipped to the mall.  We got some beds. When we got home we put Skippy and Intendo in the little cave.  They loved it.  We said “we will always play with you.”   “We are tired,”  we said.  So we put on the campfire  and roasted marshmallows with the dragons. Then I said to Ashley, “we will never tell anyone.”  Ashley said. “No never never”.  The next day we went to get Skippy and Intendo and they were not there.  Then I saw clouds.  I turned around and I saw my dragon flying.  I said, “you are a  cloud dragon, that is awesome.” and Ashley said, “Intendo is a candy dragon, that is even more awesome.”  So they eat candy and made clouds for the rest of their lives. Book Reviews

We have been using the Chromebooks to make Book Reviews.  Here are a few fabulous Book Reviews that were made completely independently with no help at all from Mrs Jones.

G.A.F.E & Chromebooks

Today was very exciting - we launched into Google Apps for Education and we have 15 Chromebooks to trial in Room 12.
We all have our very own google account (email address) to log into our Google drive.
Today we learnt how to check our emails, open and read an email, and reply to an email.  Mrs Jones had emailed us!!
Today we also found that Mrs Jones had shared the Room 12 weekly plan for Week 1 with us so we could see what is happening this week.
We used Google docs twice today - to begin to write a recount of our school holidays, and to write (with the help of last terms evaluated goals) this terms learning goals.
Mrs Jones showed us how she can check our work and check what we are up to from her Teacher Dashboard on her laptop.
It was a very exciting day!

Summer Sports Taster Session

This afternoon 4 local clubs came out to give us a little taste of cricket, tennis, touch rugby and t-ball.  It was lots of fun, and we have some talented future sporting stars in Room 12.

Calendar Art

The captains run

On Thursday the 11 of September Room 12 got invited to watch the Canterbury team train. It's because we had a red and black day and the best class got to watch the Canterbury team train, Room 12 won. When Mr M said Room 12 won our whole class was so excited we all were so pleased. On Thursday we took the bus.When we got there we had to put a wrist band on , and we got a free flag we had to show the wrist band to the security guard .Then we went and found our seat. First we saw Matt Symons he signed a few of my things. When I sat down I thought next year I really want to play rugby.Then some other people write their signatures on my flag.Then we sang happy birthday to a person. The lost teddy

There once was a little girl with a teddy and they sat down at the park on a seat. Then the girl had something to eat and fell asleep and dropped her pink teddy on the seat. Then it got dark and and then it started to rain and the teddy got wet in the pouring rain and the strong wind pushed it off the seat and it got under the seat. The next day the little girl and her mum went back to the park to look for her pink teddy and they looked everywhere but they did not look under the chair because it was wet. The little girl was so sad her mum brought the little a new pink teddy. The girl said but that is not the same one because it was smaller and did not have a bow and it was dark blue so mum wasted $50 dollars on a teddy bear. That night the little girl did not eat because she wanted her teddy. The next they went back to park. This time it was not raining. It was it was a nice sunny day. Then this time they looked under the seat and then they found the teddy but it was wet and it stunk when she cuddled it. Yuck !!! Then they took the teddy home and gave the teddy a wash and the little girl and her mum must of been the most happiest people in the whole entire world.The end

Naughty kids being mischevious in the mud

Once upon a time there was a brother and sister called Leo and Katelyn. They were being mischievous in mud. Katelyn was wearing gumboots, a dress and she was jumping. Leo was wearing a shirt, an apron, shorts and gumboots. They were naughty because they were four. They were alone and Leo and Katelyn were far away from home. They were holding hands and jumping and they were both happy. It looked like Leo was jumping in the lake and the lake was muddy. Next Leo backs up, sprints forwards and cannon balls into the muddy lake and Leo gets really muddy. The big splash goes all over Katelyn and they said "that was fun". Then they skipped home.

Once upon a time there was a lolly shop. With lollipops and Jaffas and they are all in jars. Everything is colourful. There are jelly beans. I would buy all the lollies. I would be surprised and excited. And it's awesome. I would eat them all when I got home.

Me and my friend

Once upon a time me and my friend were kicking the ball around and it got stuck up in the tree.
When they were going to climb the tree to get the ball we spotted a ginger bread house full of lollies.
We walked in to the house. Inside the house there was an old lady who was a witch and she said they could have some lollies to eat. When we were eating some of the candy the witch pressed a button and cages come down on us were stuck in the cadge. When we  were  in the cage we found a way out.
We killed the witch and  went  back home. Mum and dad were angry at us and  that's why you never  go in to a strange house. Dun dun dun dunn! The end

One day some children went to the park with with a teddy bear.They sat the teddy on the swing and they pushed the teddy.When they pushed the teddy it fell off the swing and got dirty. So they decided to go back home.When they were in the car they remembered that their bear was still in the car.

Splashing in mud

If you splashed in mud what would you do in the mud? Keep splashing or get mud proof toys? Get muddy and slide in the mud! Just do everything you can! Keep splashing!... But wait, you can get really dirty and you can get told off! But if you splash in mud what does it feel like? Slippery? Slimey? Gooey? Do you slide in the mud? Or get wet from the mud? Mud is made from dirt and water, so if you want to make mud... Make mud and jump in!

There is a teddy bear lying on a chair and it is lonely. It is sleeping on a chair and the colour was pink. But he was a scared teddy. It has a bow on its neck. I can see money on the ground. I thought it was a 1 dollar coin. There is a chair on the ground and the colours are brown.

Once a upon a time there were friend's called Josh and Keira. They were walking down the road. They found a lake full of mud and They jumped into the mud. They did not know how to get out of the lake. Their mum's were calling them back home. They did not know how to get out, so they sat down and started to cry for about a minute.

The Candy Shop

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Lilly and a little boy named Jared . They were best friends. One day they went to Fun Land and went in a shop with lots of toys. They went in a lift. They pressed a button that had an x on it . When they got out of the lift it said candy Land. And the girl was dressed in a pink and white dress with flowers and the boy was dressed in a blue top and black pants. When they got out of the lift the little girl picked up a basket . There were lollies every where . They went to the first lolly shop . All the lollies were for free. The got turns . There were lolly pops, gumballs, pebbles and planes . When they had two baskets full of lollies they decided to go home and meet there another day. On the way home there was a water fall. They went around twice and shook hands and said "goodbye meet here tomorrow". Lilly went back to her cottage and Jared went back his house on the hill, where his mum was getting ready for tea. Lilly was tired and went to bed. They lived both happily ever after.

Teddy bear picnic

Once 5 bears went on a picnic.These are their names (dad) Brooklin , (Mum) Brooke , (twins) Angel and Star and (baby) Spark. Spark opened up some yummy cookies.Then Angel poured some milo for Brooklin and Star. Angel ate a few crackers and Brooke ate a fresh banana. Then there was a teddy bear party. There were balloons. Spark wanted to go in a balloon so she sneaked into a balloon. Then Spark's friend blew up the balloon. Then the balloon fell into a freezing river. Then a plane crashed in the river. Spark's family had a funeral, they sang the bear anthem. It goes like this,''oh Spark I wish you didn't die. I wish you were alive. You could be here with us but you're not alive, oh Spark, oh Spark.I wish you were alive,din din din din good bbbbbbbbbbbbbyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee." Brooke and Brooklin had a wedding. Brooklin said "will you marry me please?" Brooke said"yes".

Climbing the slide

At South Hornby we have two play grounds. One for the year 1,2,3 and the other one for year 4,5,6. I'm a year four so I get to go on the senior play ground. On the senior play ground there is a slide. I chose to go on the slide instead of on the monkey bars.This is how I got onto the slide, there is a rope. I got Emily to put the rope on the slide. I got half way then grabbed the rope and pulled my self up. After me, Trinity came up. At some point it is hard and some point it is easy. I like climbing the the slide, it's fun.

The Library

Room12  went   to  the  library  on  Friday. There  were  chapter   books, picture books and diary books.  We had to read quietly.  The whole class went to the library.  It was warm in the library.  It was cold outside.  After we went to the library we went to ukelele.  After ukelele we went to class.  When we came back to class we did some work.  Then we read a chapter of our chapter book.  Then we packed up for home.  Then we went home.

Climbing trees

Trees are fun to climb but not when you fall out. Sometimes people say climbing trees is scary but I'm not scared at all. Julia, Lorelei and Shanarnia climbed the tree with me. I can climb to the top but when I swing on a branch I'm a little scared.

Loom bands

0n Friday me and my friends called Ruby , Kyra and Desharn used Sophie's loom bands. I made a fishtail and I made a plait. I used some colours and they were green, purple, blue, pink, white, black and dark blue. It was fun making loom bands.

Climbing trees

I don't know about you but I love climbing trees. It is fun. I can climb high and I can climb low. And some times when I get stuck I jump or climb off but I never fall out of them. On Friday I climbed one of the trees with Kristie, Julia and Shanarnia . It's easy climbing trees. Some times it's scary and most of the times it's fun.  Mr.M let's us climb trees now but he says "Don't fall out!"  Once when Mrs Jones was on duty she told me at her old school that she taught at she had a naughty boy in her class and he ran out of class and climbed a tree and got himself stuck in a tree.  He had to wait at the end of lunch time to get the caretaker to get a ladder and get him down and that taught him a lesson.

On Friday I was climbing the senior playground tree.I climbed the tree with Kristie, Lorelei and Shanarnia at lunch time. I like climbing trees because it is fun. I also like to swing on the branches. We are not allowed to fall out of the tree.

The library

Every Friday room 12 goes to the library. I like how we are allowed to choose our own book . If you want you can read with a buddy.You have to always sit down and be quiet.You are allowed to sit on cushions and bean bags. Sometimes Mrs Jones reads us a book I love the library.

Who Are We?

We are a Year 3 and 4 class in the Middle Syndicate at South Hornby School in Christchurch, NZ. Our teacher is Mrs Jones. There are currently 23 students in our class, 4 classes in our syndicate and 13 classes at our school.
We love learning. And we love having fun with our learning.
